According to a survey by the Shogunate during the first half of the 19th century, we can confirm there were 33 shrines within the present-day Minato City, and each was the focus for worship including by patron towns and surrounding samurai families, as well as held festivals.
The Akasaka Hikawa Myojin Shrine festival, enjoying a status second only to Hie Sanno and Kanda Myojin Shrines, is held on June 15 every other year; the whole of Akasaka becomes a festival space, with patron towns performing alone or in a group, and a procession of floats decorated with splendid dolls drawn on oxcarts. In recent years, in a new collaboration within the region, there has been a revival of touring floats.
