| 瑞穂町では平成18年7月に米国カリフォルニア州のモーガンヒル市と姉妹都市提携を結び、国際交流事業として新たな都市交流を行っています。モーガンヒル市は、瑞穂町の人口や面積とほぼ同規模の自然豊かな都市で、偶然にも市の誕生日にあたる市制施行日が瑞穂町と同じ11月10日でした。 | Mizuho entered into a sister-city agreement with Morgan Hill, California, in July 2006, engaging in this new relationship as part of an international exchange program. Morgan Hill is about the same size as Mizuho in terms of population and area, and has a rich natural environment. Serendipitously, the city's birthday (the date the city administration was established) is the same as Mizuho's―November 10 |
| 両市町の中学生が相互にホームステイを体験する学生交換プログラムも順調に進み、多くの子どもたちが異文化を体験してきました。また、モーガンヒル市で行われる独立記念パレードへの参加や、町制施行70周年記念式典には8名の訪問団が来町するなど、順調に友好を深めてきました。平成20年には瑞穂町姉妹都市委員会が設立され、町民が主体となった交流事業も展開されており、秋の最大イベント「テイスト・オブ・モーガンヒル」に姉妹都市委員会を中心とした町民9名が訪米するなど、住民レベルの交流も行われています。 | A student exchange program in which junior high students from both municipalities participate in homestay visits has gone smoothly, and many children have enjoyed cross-cultural experiences. Our participation in Morgan Hill's Independence Day parade and an eight-person delegation from Morgan Hill that visited Mizuho for the town's 70th anniversary celebration have resulted in a steadily stronger friendship. Mizuho established a sister-city committee in 2008. Town residents have taken the lead in developing friendship programs, and nine townspeople, mainly from the sister-city committee, attended Morgan Hill's big fall event, Taste of Morgan Hill, carrying out cross-cultural relations on a grassroots level. |
| 平成20年と21年には、タイ王国の都市へ国際化推進派遣事業を実施しました。アジアの国々の一員として、アジアの諸都市との友好と相互理解を深める交流事業もすすめてきました。今後はこうした国際交流を深め、国際的視野に立った人材を発掘、育成するほか、海外留学奨学資金等支給制度の普及と利用促進を図って留学を支援し、世界で活躍できる人材の育成に努めていきます。 | As an Asian city, Mizuho has also carried out friendship programs with other cities in Asia to deepen friendship and mutual understanding. As an example, international friendship delegations from Mizuho visited cities in the Kingdom of Thailand in 2008 and 2009. In the future we hope to develop people who can take active international roles in increasing cross-cultural communication. We intend to scout out personnel with international perspectives and train them, as well as establish and promote scholarships for exchange studies and other support programs. |
| また、住民と横田基地に勤務する米軍人の相互理解を深めるため、さまざまな交流事業が行われています。「日米交流合同音楽会」では、日米両国の学生等による音楽を通じた交流を深めています。乳搾り体験では、横田基地第374空輸航空団司令官と瑞穂農芸高校の生徒との親睦を図りました。 | Mizuho carries out various friendship programs to increase mutual understanding among residents living near Yokota Air Base and the military personnel who work there. At the Japan-U.S. exchange joint concert, the communication has been strengthened through the music by U.S. and Japanese students. |
