In 1945, Japan was defeated, and the Pacific War ended. The social system was confused and there was an increasingly serious shortage of goods: all of which affected Mizuho.
The United States occupied Japan, and a squadron of the First Cavalry Division of the United States Armed Forces was stationed in the former Imperial Army's Tama Airfield, which subsequently became the Yokota Air Base. During the occupation, due to the fact that the runway of the base was too narrow for large bombers to take off and land, it was expanded to the northwest of the base, i.e. on the Mizuho town side. Subsequently, this began to make a big impact on the townspeople's life, particularly with the noise of military aircraft taking off and landing.
In 1953 the Law for the Promotion of the Mergers of Cities, Towns and Villages was enacted. In 1958, Mizuho Town in Nishitama-gun, Tokyo, and Motosayama village in Iruma-gun, Saitama Prefecture, made a cross-prefectural-border merger, and so the current Mizuho town area was established.
