| 町の中心部を通る旧国道16号は、通過交通量が多いために、交通事故が発生し、また渋滞による環境汚染が常に心配されていました。平成6年にバイパスが完成し、特に大型車の通行が分散され、交通環境が改善されました。バルコニーのある富士山横断歩道橋とモニュメント「希望の泉」が、同時完成しました。 | Because of the heavy traffic on the old National Route No. 16, which passes through the center of town, traffic accidents have occurred and there is also constant concern about the environmental pollution caused by traffic congestion. A bypass was completed in 1994, and the traffic environment has been improved by the more efficient traffic distribution, especially regarding large vehicles. The Fujiyama footbridge with balcony and the "Fountain of Hope" monument were simultaneously completed. |

| 昭和6年八高線(八王子～高麗川間)が、開通しました。蒸気機関車から昭和33年ディーゼル車となり、38年後の平成8年に住民の悲願であった電車化が実現しました。電車化によって快適な車両に替わり、運行本数も増えました。青梅線、中央線、川越線との接続も実現しています。 | In 1931, the Hachiko Line started its operation (between Hachioji-Komagawa). Eagerly awaited by local residents, the transition was made from steam to diesel locomotives in 1958, followed 38 years later in 1996 by a further change to electric trains. The electric changeover brought with it more comfortable carriages and also an increased number of services. It has also linked with the Ome Line, Chuo Line and Kawagoe Line. |
