| Even after the Korean War was concluded, expansion of the air base was planned, and the farmland around Ishihata was forfeited. Mizuho Junior High School, which suffered from the noise, requested the return of the firing range that the US force was using, and the school was relocated there, along with compensation. In addition, the Mizuho branch of the Tokyo Metropolitan Agriculture and Forestry High School, which had lived together within the junior high school, now had its own independent school building. |
| The compensation by the air base facilitated the construction of public facilities, thereby enabling us to deliver a youth training center, a new town office building, municipal pool, etc. |
| Both Moto-Sayama village and Mizuho had long been interested in a merger, the former being linked by close commercial and transportation ties, and the latter needing land for expansion to replace the crop-field lost to the air base. Despite having lobbied the relevant parties for this, the approval of Saitama Prefecture was not given because such a merger would change the prefectural boundary. As a result of the conflict between the pro-merger group and those preferring to remain in Saitama Prefecture, it was decided to merge but at the cost of leaving behind a large area of the Nihongi district. |
| The town population exceeded 10,000 in 1960 and further increased beyond 15,000 by 1965, as a result of the metropolitan housing construction in the Ishihata area since 1960, as well as through natural increase. |
| In 1964 when the Tokyo Olympic Games were held, Mizuho townsmen also took part in the torch relay. In the same year, tea cooperatives completed the refrigerated warehouse for their tea. |
| By now, Mizuho town had left behind the impoverished conditions of wartime and the post-war era and was emerging as a completely new town. |
