二、長谷部新田(はせべしんでん)2. Hasebe Shinden

 扇町屋(おうぎまちや)の長谷部吉左衛門の出願によって開発された新田で、弟の勘治郎が名主として村づくりに当った関係で長谷部新田と呼んだ。It was the shinden (newly developed rice paddies and crop fileds) developed upon the request of Hasebe Kichiza'emon of Ogi-machiya, and his younger brother Kanjiro became the headman of the village development. Thus, the shinden was referred to as Hasebe Shinden.
 元宿と呼ばれる集落と、秩父街道北側の七軒新田と俗称される集落の人々が開発した地域である。The area was developed by the people from a community called Moto-juku and those from the community widely known as Shichiken-shinden, to the north of Chichibu Kaido.
 開発当初の享保十四年の新田書上帳に三十二軒の百姓の名が記されている。 In the Shinden-sho Kami-choh (Book of new paddy field, vol. 1), prepared at the beginning of the development in Kyoho 14 (1729), 32 farmers' names were recorded.
