| It was the name of the place in the vicinity of the community, commonly called Shichi-ken-shinden, which was developed by seven farmers, including Shimizu Hachiro'emon, who came from Kami-Nariki Village during the Kyoho period and lived on the north side of Chichibu Kaido. Because of an overhanging a plateau in the northwest, the underground water level was low, with significant water sprung up from the ground after a long spell of rain. Thus such a name would indicate a place where it was easy to obtain water. |
