針谷寺にある過去帳により、慶安元年(1648)に防風並びに防火のため、周辺に植樹したことが記載されており、この植樹によるものが指定されている。

A necrology of Shinkoku-ji tells that trees were planted in the vicinity to prevent wind and fire in the Keian period 1 (1648). One of the trees planted at this time was designated as a cultural asset.
