"近世後期、ロシア使節やイギリス軍船の来航により長崎警備は強化されます。本図には、西泊・戸町両番所（慶安元（1648）年設置）、長崎湊内外の大田尾・女神・神崎・白崎・高鉾・長刀岩・陰ノ尾各御台場（明暦元（1655）年設置、文化6・9年増設）、遠見番所、西国諸藩の大名陣場所在地等、長崎警備の主要施設が描かれています。特に台場の描写は細かく、明暦元年に設置された台場を「在来」、フェートン号事件後に増設された台場には「新」および「大台場」と注記しています。「根木屋」「御薬蔵」等も記す。「大台場」が完成した文化9年頃の景観と思われます。"
