          "小野崎遺跡は菊池川と菊池川の支流である合志川とに挟まれた台地上に立地する遺跡である。その台地の標高は約40～約50mである。遺跡の西側は近接した状態で合志川が北側に流れている。遺跡の北東方向約500m離れた箇所に菊池川が北西方向に流れている。巨視的に見れば、河川が西及び東から侵入する外敵を防ぐ役目をしている。  　この遺跡は、ほ場整備工事に伴って七城町教育委員会(合併後、菊池市教育委員会)が発掘調査を実施している。その成果は以下のとおりである。確認した遺構・遺物は、縄文時代、弥生時代、古代、近世のものである。遺跡の中心となるのは、弥生時代後期の集落である。この集落には環濠が巡っており、上述の河川を利用した防衛との二重構造になっている。  　遺跡は居住域と墓域とが分けられていると想定できる。居住域には竪穴建物が多数築造されており、同じ場所での建て替えが確認されている。墓域には土壙墓、木棺墓、石棺墓、方形周溝墓等が検出されている。多量の土器、石器等や鏡等の青銅器が出土しており、拠点的な集落と考えられる。特異な遺物として銅釦があり、朝鮮半島からの搬入品と考えられる。"
