          "花房台地から菊池川左岸の菊池平野を一望する丘陵上の、菊池十八外城の一つ古池城跡に隣接したところに、出田鬼石古墳がある。この古墳は羨門(せんもん)、羨道前室(せんどうせんしつ)などを備えた横穴式石室で、巨石のみを使用していることから「赤星やんぼし塚」と同時代(6世紀)のものといわれている。  　古墳の上を覆う天井石が2枚、1枚は2．3m×2．1m、もう1枚は2．5m×2．0mで、3分の1くらいから割られ、ノミの跡が残る。当時割ったのか、後世に割られたものであるかは不明である。  　石室の内部は奥行き3．3m、幅1．5m、高さは0．6mで、側石は両側とも2枚の凝灰岩からできており、体をかがめてやっと入れる高さである。昭和31年の調査時に金環が出土したという。  　古墳への道は車道から左に15m程小道を登り、2m近い法面を越えた所で、墳丘はなくなっており石室のみが見られる。"
