          "下木庭集落から上木庭に向かって坂を上っていく途中に、右に折れて雑木林に向かう道がある。その道からさらに左上に急な坂道を登っていくと墓地が見えてくる。この墓地には宝永5年(1708)とか、享保10年(1725)とかの墓碑が存在し、古くから墓地であったことが分かる。墓地をさらに奥に進むと、凝灰岩に十字を刻んだ墓を7基と規則的に並んでいると思われる埋石があり、この一角にある墓碑の中には天和2年(1682)の文字を確認することができる。  　『県文化財調査報告』には、木庭の「十字」を刻した墓碑4基があるとされる。また、「熊本県史蹟名勝天然記念物概要」には、「菊池川に臨める墓地に接して五、六基の切支丹墓碑あり、扁平なる石の片面に、又は両面にただ十字を彫りたるのみにて銘文なし」と記されている。墓碑は凝灰岩の自然石をそのまま使用し、正面だけ平らにしてある。墓碑の十字のいくつかには、朱を塗った痕(あと)が見受けられる。この近くが豊後と高瀬を結ぶ切支丹ルートにあたることから注目されている。"
