実綿を左で持ち、2本のローラーの間にあてて、右手のとっ手をまわすと、2本のローラーが綿をくわえこむようにまわって綿毛は前へおくりだされます。種は手前におちて、綿毛と種が分かれます。
Turn the handle on the right side while holding the raw cotton on your left hand and sliding it between the two rollers so they draw the cotton in and push the cotton fibers forward. Cotton seeds are separated from the fibers and fall to the ground.

ひとかたまりにしておくと、つむぐとき、便利です。

種からひきはなしたばかりの綿のせんいは、大きなかたまりや、小さなかたまりに分かれているので、カーターを使って綿をうち、よくほぐしておきます。
ほぐしておくと、糸をつむぎやすくなります。
Cotton fibers just removed from the seeds are separated in clusters of different sizes. Use the hand carder to card the cotton fibers and align them in the same direction
so that it is easier to spin the thread.

種をとりのぞいた綿をかた手に持ち、もういっぽうの手の親指と人さし指で、綿の束のはしをつかみ、綿を少し引き出して、指先をすりあわせて、綿を細くねじるようにして、糸の先をつまんだまま、糸ぐるまのキザミに糸の先をはさみます。糸ぐるまをゆっくりと回していきます。
Hold the cotton with seeds removed with one hand and grab a few fibers from the end of the cotton bundle with the thumb and index finger of the other hand. Pull and draw them out of the bundle a little and twist them by rolling them in one direction between your fingers. Then, pinch the end of the twisted cotton fibers into a notch of the spinning wheel. Turn the spinning wheel slowly.
