A photo of the Ikenocho Municipal Market (probably in the prewar period)
The Ikenocho Municipal Market of Takada Cho was established around the same time as the Bareiike Pond renovation in 1927. At that time, there were around 20 stores in the market.

After the war, more stores also started to open around the municipal market as shown in the below photo. It eventually became a shopping street often referred to as the “kitchen of Takada.”
The shopping street had many stores selling food and daily necessities, which attracted many visitors every day. In those days, the shopping street was filled with various visitors such as spinning mill workers and people from nearby towns and villages visiting by bus and train.

A view of Ikenocho seen from Bareiike Pond
The houses on the left side of the above photo (the present-day park) were built to appear as if they are jutting out from the pond similar to Yoshino-Date (architectural style unique to Yoshino area).
