八幡神社・伊福寺跡について(大和高田市本郷町)
Hachiman Shrine and the remains of Ifuku-ji Temple (Hongo Cho, Yamato Takada City)

「明治天皇御小休所之跡」の碑より南へ80m、本郷町と高田城跡の間に八幡神社はあります。
ここは高田城の域内であったと思われます。
Hachiman Shrine is located 80 meters south of the monument of the “remains of former Emperor Meiji’s rest area” between Hongo Cho and the site of Takada Castle．
The shrine was reportedly within the grounds of Takada Castle．
 
伊福寺は、鎌倉時代の初期に奈良の興福寺の末寺として栄えました。この神社は、伊福寺というお寺を守るためにできたものだといわれています。しかし、今は、葛城市のお寺にある阿弥陀如来や五條市にある大般若経600巻(鎌倉時代)でのみ、伊福寺の存在を確認することができません。
この八幡神社は、本郷町・八幡筋・古川町、5か町の氏神であり、毎年、7月14日に例祭があります。(本来は、9月14日でした)
平成19(2007)年に拝殿、25(2013)年に神殿の修復工事がなされました。拝殿には、絵馬が多く奉納されています。
 
In the early years of the Kamakura period, Ifuku-ji Temple flourished as a branch temple of Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara. The shrine was reportedly built to protect a temple called Ifuku-ji Temple. However, today, the existence of Ifuku-ji Temple can only be seen in the Amidanyorai statues in the temples of Katsuragi City and the 600 volumes of Daihannyakyo (Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, the one created in Kamakura period) in Gojo City．
Hachiman Shrine is dedicated to the local deity of five towns including Hongo Cho, Hachimansuji, and Furukawa Cho, and holds an annual festival every July 14. (Originally, it was held on September 14.)
The shrine underwent restoration work on the worship hall in 2007 and the main hall in 2013. Many votive tablets offered by worshipers are hung inside the worship hall．

「7月14日は、八幡神社の縁日です。私が子供の頃には、今ほど道は広くなく、屋台も道の両側にならんでいて、人の間を縫うように何度も往復し、ショウガ飴や花火を買ったりしました。また、常光寺池で催される仕掛け花火が祭りのメインイベントでした。8日の龍王宮(片塩町)、11日の大中チャンチャン(春日神社)、21日の天神社(三和町)とお祭りが続くのも楽しみでした。」

“July 14 is the day of the Hachiman Shrine festival. When I was a child, the street was not as wide as it is now but still there were various stalls that lined both sides of the street. I pushed my way through the crowd, back and forth, to buy ginger candies and fireworks from these stalls. The main event of the festival was the fireworks held at Konjo-ji Pond. There were also other festivals that I look forward to every year: the Ryuogu festival on July 8 (Katashio Cho), the Onaka Chan Chan festival on July 11 (Kasuga Shrine) and the Tenjin Shrine festival on June 21 (Sanwa Cho). ”
