The hypocenter of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima is outside of the Peace Memorial Park. There are multiple reports on the exact location of the hypocenter, but the latest verification, based on the figures proposed during a reassessment in 1969, places the current location at the exit of a parking lot on the south side of the Shima Hospital in 1-chome, Otemachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City (132°27’ 17.3’’ east longitude and 34°23’ 40.5’’ north latitude). This is near the courtyard of the former Shima Hospital (Nishimoto 2020, Takesaki 2020). At the time of the bombing, the building was destroyed in an instant, killing all the patients and nurses in the hospital. In front of the present-day Shima Hospital, there is an explanatory plaque about the atomic bombing that indicates the hypocenter area.
