Description
|
The old Hiroshima City Hall, built on the present site in 1928, was severely damaged by the atomic bombing. However, through multiple renovations it continued to function as the City Hall until 1985 when a new building was constructed. Currently, part of the basement which was used as a warehouse for the distribution division at the time of the atomic bombing is open to the public as an exhibition room. The exhibition room contains explanations of the history of Hiroshima and the old City Hall building before and after the atomic bombing, the city administration under the Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Law and related topics such as the reconstruction of the city and its development as an international city of peace and culture, and an exhibit about past mayors and actual items they used personally.
