NZ Junior blundered in the last tour, so it is not hard to imagine how vigorous they were this time. Japan did not have the power to face their challenge and defeat them.
During the opening 10 minutes, Japan conceded one try, one goal, and one penalty. They lost points repeatedly before they could organise themselves as a team. Although Japan played almost head-to-head after Murata caught the ball from Fujiwara's punt and scored a try (and a conversion) in the 13th minute, they could not maintain this consistently throughout the match. Japan earned the scores by breaking New Zealand Junior's defensive line with systematic plays and continuous tricks. The three tries in the second half, in the 16th minute by Aruga, 26th minute by Mori, and 33rd minute by Fujiwara were so applaudable that 30,000 spectators filling the stadium stood up.
