The third qualifier in the Asian region for the World Cup was competed for by three countries: Japan, the Arabian Gulf Rugby Union Team and Korea. The final qualifying tournament will be played this November between the top two countries of this tournament and the top one country of Division Two. Japan gave the Arabian Gulf Rugby Union Team no chances, and won the match 82-9. However, the game itself was so bad that head coach Elissalde called it ‘the worst game ever in the history of Japanese rugby'. In the first half, Japan scored four tries and beat the Arabian Gulf, who scored three penalties, 27-9. Japan engaged in the game centring on kicking with the Arabian Gulf, and was unable to demonstrate their usual quick style of rugby. Instead, their play was uncoordinated and lacked intensity. It was an unlikely relaxed game for a qualifier for the World Cup. The Arabian Gulf Rugby Union Team was exhausted and slow in the second half, so Japan was able to score nine tries. They scored 55 points to make the game one-sided.
