Yokoana-bo (cave tombs) are the tombs created in the hills by digging a horizontal cave in the end of the Kofun period (tumulus period). They are distributed throughout Japan, but many of those in Higashi-Kazusa (eastern part of central Chiba) are of the special form called 'Koudanshiki.' Being a typical example of this type, the Nagara Yokoana-gun (a group of cave tombs) was designated as a historic landmark in the Heisei period 7 (1995) .
