釈迦如来坐像(しゃかにょらいざぞう)は、鼻梁(びりょう)が太く意想的な強い表情を持つ相貌(そうぼう)、量感豊かな体躯(たいく)、写実的な衣文に運慶派の系統を引く作風を示し、いわゆる上底式内刳を施した構造にも、この派の特色がうかがわれる。鎌倉時代中期の優秀な製作である。脇侍(わきじ)の阿難(あなん)・迦葉(かしょう)像は、これとやや作風を異にし、玉眼を嵌入しない点からも、同時の作とは思われないが、鎌倉時代後期の遡(さかのぼ)る製作と見られる。

The sitting statue of Shaka Nyorai shows the strong bridge of the nose with a countenance of strong contemplative expression. The statute is massive, showing the style originated by the Unkei school in its realistic dress. The raised bottom inside the hollowed-out statue also shows a feature of the Unkei school. This is an excellent example created in the middle of Kamakura era. The statues of Anan/Kasho flanking the deity have slightly different styles. As they do not have eyes made of crystal/glass inserted in the statues, they are not considered to be made in the same era. Perhaps it was made in the end of Kamakura era.
