真言宗の八祖の画像である。筆者名などは無いが、室町時代初期の製作と推定される。着衣や肉身部分の彩色において白色に現された部分は、白色顔料を画絹の裏から塗る、裏彩色が施されており、また色紙形の下絵として、雲や草花が金泥を用いてゆったりと描かれるなど伝統的な手法が見られる。

This is a picture of Hasso of Shingon sect. It has no artist name on it, but it is considered to be made in the beginning of Muromachi era. White pigment was painted from the back of the silk canvas for the white areas of the clothing and the flesh. Clouds and flowers were drawn in a relaxed manner using gold paint as the sketch on Shikishigata, which is a traditional style.
