An alternate version of the Hundred Poets Collection. Compiled by Kikunoya. Illustrated by Seiyo and Kogaku. Published by Tobunʼen Honjo Kohei at Higashi-no-Toin in Kyoto. The preface by Kido Chitate has a date of 1829 (Bunsei 12), 11th month, 4th day. In the manner of the Hundred Tales of Ghosts and Demons, in which it is said that ghosts and demons are summoned after telling one hundred horror stories, there was a gathering where everyone recited kyoka poems related to ghosts and demons according to the description of the invitation letter by Shikatsube Saemonnojo. Furthermore, seven rules were established for the parlor game, and everyone enjoyed getting scared. This collection has twenty poets (including Donshusai, Tachibanaʼan, Ranʼei) who each contributed poems under such titles as “The Woman with a Rubber Neck,” “The Bald Monster of the Sea,” “The Ghost of the Lost Dishes,” and “The Ghost of Death.” It is illustrated with pictures of ghosts and demons, around which the kyoka poems are written, making for something just a bit different.
